Carnivale di Venezia

Leave it to Sue Wong to put on a theatrical spectacle of a show. Inspired by the, “mystery, seduction, and grandeur surrounding Venetian Carnivale,” the talented designer once again confirmed the belief that more is more.

This season, Wong’s flamboyant combination of intricate embellishments, dramatic silhouettes, zingy colors, and couture details brought to life unique creations steeped in opulent luxury. Drawing upon her appreciation of a wide array of exotic cultures, Ms. Wong incorporated Middle Eastern, Andalusian, and Oriental elements into her distinctive style. Dripping with lavish coque feathers, beaded paillettes, hand crochet adornments, brocade patchworks, and bejeweled accents; these evening wear pieces were dramatic to the core.

However, the most interesting part of the collection came in the form of knitted-torso ball gowns with leaf appliqués and deconstructed ruched ruffle skirts. In assimilating a material often associated with casual comfort wear, Sue Wong seemed to assert that she is not afraid to explore new frontiers in pursuit of distinctive panache.
