Without fail Los Angles Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios attracts A-List celebrities to Culver City. Big screen stars, music moguls, heart throbs, rock stars, and infamous heiresses alike, flock to see talented LA designers showcase their latest collections.

This season’s celebrity galore got off to a star powered start with Louis Verdad’s much anticipated show. Everyone from the Hilton sisters to Matthew Perry was in attendance to cheer on Madonna’s couturier. All the ladies (including Paris, whose rocky relationship with Greek shipping heir Stavros is rumored to be on the outs) were impeccably dressed in Verdad’s unmistakable retro ensembles. Nonetheless, Carmen Electra’s elegant prettiness in pink was the radiant highlight of the front row.

LA is renowned for embracing irreverence. Thus, it is not unusual to see racy spectacles on Tinsel Town runways. UK’s Agent Provocateur, featuring sexy lingerie creations, was definitely a risqué feast for the eyes. And there to enjoy the show were Cher, Christina Aguilera and Courtney Love. Cher, whose taste for overstatement precedes her, was surprisingly understated in minimal makeup. However, the biggest surprise of the night was Courtney; significantly demure and lady-like in an ecru dress with matching jacket. To everyone’s pleasant surprise, the former Mrs. Kurt Cobain was the poster child for stunning makeovers.

The new Bebe collection was the talk of the town this season. Diverging from its traditional profile, the company employed David Cardona and Arianne Phillips (stylist to A-list stars like Madonna) for a spectacular reinvention of the label. The resulting creations for fall 2006 were impressive, but the power team’s guest list was simply stellar. Before the highly publicized defilé, Bebe’s new face, OC starlet Mischa Barton, posed for the media in a stunning purple dress. In addition to the fresh faced teen, pop sensation Mya, movie icon Angelica Huston, and Jackson sister Latoya were amongst the guests.

LA designer Jennifer Nicholson is Hollywood royalty. Every season Jack’s daughter causes as many ripples with her front row lineup as she does with her fabulous clothes. This season, as is expected, Papa Nicholson was rooting for his baby. Also, to many people’s surprise, Jack’s ex Lara Flynn Boyle had showed up to support the family. Looking impressively healthy and happy, the actress - once rumored to be anorexic - seems to have overcome her troubles.

LA style would be unimaginable without the American classic – denim. Embellished, sequined, embroidered or pared down to basics, jeans are a stylistic statement. That is why young generation Hollywood elite can’t imagine stepping out sans their favorite pair. Famous sisters Hilary and Haylie Duff are certainly big fans of the unmistakable blue twill. Front row at Antik Denim, the all American darlings were the epitome of youthful California chic.

In Los Angeles the famous faces seen in the front rows are as much of a measure of success as the runway reviews. Hence, a label’s guest list has the power to make or break fashion careers. This should not come as a surprise as it is a general stylistic sensibility, defined by the way stars dress that Los Angles exports to the rest of the world. Here, fashion is as much about the red carpet as it is about the catwalk. And like every other glamorous aspect of the red carpet lifestyle, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios was a glitzy, celebrity studded affair brimming with beautiful people, fabulous clothes, and sizzling rumors.
