PARIS, July 3, 2006 - Sitting beneath the low greenhouse panels that laced
the ceiling of the room where Gaspard Yurkievitch showed on Monday afternoon,
was equivalent to stretching out on the sand in Death Valley. The misery
factor was literally off the charts. Fortunately for all concerned, the
Brazilian designer delivered a creative take on men's wear for summer 2007.
Models came out, hair slicked back to the scalp, and it wasn’t long before
any number of pieces caught the eye: a gray spencer, a series of aluminum
trousers and jackets, sweaters sheared to navel level, and slinky mesh
shorts. The bondage overtones of face mask, accessory chains and chastity
belts gave an unnecessarily heaviness to an otherwise feather-light
collection.
