Zac Posen

While Zac’s uncharacteristically, almost all black collection last season was met with almost unanimously negative reaction, this time he was back on track with a decidedly grown up sophisticated collection that belied his youth and had the fashion flock recalling why we fell in love with him in the first place.

With the exception of some natty pantsuits, pretty full sleeved ivory chiffon blouses worn with gray menswear inspired trousers, a trench inspired group in tan cotton including a short skirt suit and one abbreviated full skirted trench), the line as usual, focused on late day into evening clothes that recalled Old Hollywood Glamour. There was a reliance on a neutral color palette with splashes of strong shades (red, hot pink, green). While some of the gowns were over the top in their voluminous shapes and unnecessary decoration, the simpler incarnations were elegant, beautiful, and timeless. And very grown up.

And talk about great timing. One of the vintage world’s most hallowed names, Didier Ludot, is slated to present Zac Posen’s work in his elegant Palais Royal store during Paris Fashion Week. Currently being backed by Sean Combs, the flamboyant Posen has a major following among the young stars (some of whom showed up front row center), probably scouting out that perfect red carpet creation. With Zac’s matinee good looks, charismatic personality, and his flair for the dramatic, (a shrinking violet he is not), the young Posen is poised for his close-up.
