Since Tom Ford took a bow Gucci has been struggling to nail down a distinct identity. With Alessandra Faccinetti gone, Frida Giannini – a former accessories designer – is trying to guide the brand back to its place at the top. Unfortunately, her efforts to resuscitate the label may be in vain. Frida’s piped abbreviated cape-trenches and strange folkloric print dresses are not the kind of irresistible clothes discerning fashionistas will covet. The budding designer’s collection could achieve financial success as the company continues to ride on the coattails of its stellar days back when Ford redefined smoldering sexappeal. But don’t be surprised if there is yet another change in the Gucci vanguard.
