About our March First cover boy---here is what Fashionlines' Sao Paulo editor, Roger Mesquita, has to say about this beyond beautiful man: "Rodrigo Santoro is the biggest Brazilian male star. He lives in Rio and does the major movies and TV series in Brazil… here he has done movies like "Behind the Sun" and "Carandiru". In the US he has been in "Charlie´s Angels" and "Love Actually". He is a talented gorgeous young man here, a sex symbol for the girls... seen as a real promise of being the next Brazilian world star." For now, you may still be able to catch him on the Sao Paulo runways. West Coast Editor Sedef Kokcuoglu says, "Rodrigo is the perfect cross between a young Keanu Reeves and Ethan Hawke!" Remember, you saw him on the cover of Fashionlines.

We will also be bringing Sedef's Milan Autumn 2004, Timothy Hagy's Paris Autumn 2004 report and Marilyn Kirschner's New York Autumn 2004 report. For those of you who read the Sunday New York Times, Marilyn's style and image have graced the center of two recent fashion collages of Bill Cunningham.
From Caroline Parrish in London regarding an event we think will be great fun:

Lanesborough, one of London's finest hotels, is holding an Ascot designer tea on April 22nd to celebrate the start of the English season.

We will have the top UK milliners (such as Cosmo Jenks, Phillip Treacy and Pip Hackett) on hand to meet people and guide them towards the correct hat and style. Attendees will then retire to The Conservatory, our beautiful restaurant, for a full, elegant afternoon tea before being presented with a goody bag.

Tickets will cost around £30 for the exhibition and tea. Contact Caroline Parrish at Caroline@RHPR.com

We continue now with our Fashionlines staff profiles. Darlene Bink has been at Fashionlines since we started up in the spring of 1999. She is responsible for the look and feel of our magazine. It isn't often that you see an online fashion magazine that tones its pages to the colors in a couture gown-this is Darlene's imprint and her own style coming through. Her use of color is unparalleled in the business, and the rest of us at Fashionlines know it is Darlene who makes us look good. Darlene has also become an excellent yoga instructor. She is married to Marty Bink, a psychologist and Fashionlines garden expert ("Green with Envy"). Darlene always surprises me with her color combinations and layouts. In fact, receiving her layouts over the internet is always one of the highlights of my day!

Darlene Bink, Graphic Designer

I was born in East Chicago, IN and grew up in Crown Point, IN, a small town about 45 minutes east of Chicago. As a child I was quite the "tomboy," playing football and racing bikes with the boys in the neighborhood. By the age of 12 I became interested in art and I took many art classes throughout middle and high school.

I attended Ball State University in Muncie, IN where it didn't take long to realize that I would have a career in computer design. I knew immediately that I had a "knack" for it. I received my bachelor degree in Journalism (the advertising sequence) and Fine Arts. While in college I had the wonderful opportunity to study in Vienna, Austria for a semester. I developed a strong passion for traveling, getting to know other cultures, meeting people and seeing new things. I try to visit a new place at least once a year.

Before working as Graphic Designer at Fashionlines.com, I had various "interesting" jobs including a Traffic Manager for local cable programming and a Proposal/Marketing Manager for an engineering firm. My position at Fashionlines.com is definitely fulfilling for me - - it has given me the opportunity to "go wild" with my creativity.

Not only has my career taken several paths, but I have had the fortune to live in several different areas of the U.S. I lived in Athens, Georgia - a culturally diverse college town with southern charm - before moving to Sunnyvale, California - where I met Christine Suppes and began to work for Fashionlines.com. Currently I live in Corinth, Texas - a small community just north of Dallas. While living in California, I discovered another passion - - Yoga! I have been practicing Yoga for four years and teaching Yoga for two years. Yoga has helped me in numerous ways, such as bringing calmness into a once agitated body, increasing flexibility and strength and improving my overall wellness. Again, I knew immediately that the sacred art and science of Yoga would be a part of my life for many, many years to come.

I have been married almost six years to Marty Bink. He is an Experimental Psychologist at the University of North Texas and also a loving and compassionate partner. Together we enjoy our NINE cats, gardening, traveling and the celebration of life!

In his artworks, from “standards for Youth”, “standard Family”, “standards for Chubbiness and Charm” to “Standards” for Ideal Residential Compound”, Sichuan artist Yang Mian addresses the issue of changing standards that are shaping the face of the social and cultural life in Chinese society. From personal standards to social standards, existing standards to constantly shifting standards, Yang Mian questions and reflects on different kinds of standards through his paintings and installations: “how has our life been changed? What kind of changes do we need? Are the standards we have established what we really want?”

Without paying tribute to history and the involvement of the cultural circle, architecture in China is all the same everywhere. There is no individuality, not or the tradition of regional culture. This is not due to political power. The fact that our culture is being oppressed and has become insensitive accounts for the situation. The construction procedure of our cities is only a product of developers’ personal preference on the condition of not breaking any regulations. What developers are after is profit and they take the advantage of marketing gimmicks. We only have to take a look at all the property projects in our city to discover that all of them are the same kind of tube-shaped buildings, appearing in advertisements in the name of “European” and “Continental Style”, “Roman Garden”, High-profile Community, Ideal Homeland, Waterside Landscape etc.

In this exhibition, Yang Mian will exhibit his iron construction models and oil paintings.
