The Paris shows got underway in earnest on Tuesday morning, hours after a suicide bomber unsuccessfully targeted Vice President Cheney's bunker in Afghanistan. It's like déjà vu seeing the cave men huts of the Taliban and resurgent Al Queada cells, while reading intelligence reports suggesting that their next plot might be to detonate a nuclear bomb inside the United States.

Almost as if on cue, out came Vivienne Westwood with a freaky collection entitled "Wake Up, Cave Girl!" Square shoulders and billowing silk gave volume to pieces of prehistoric inspiration. Pants buttoned up with patches of fabric cut to resemble animal hides, vied with oversized overalls and capes for the spotlight. Westwood's creative style can be edgy, and this season especially so. If the Taliban caught sight of some of these clothes, they might head back into the cave.
