This year the Golden Globes housed the biggest names in television and cinema under one roof for the 63rd time. The star-studded grand affair hosted at the ball room of the Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles was as much a fashion show as it was an award ceremony. While dashing heart throbs opted for classic tuxes and sharp suits, the ladies donned dazzling gowns in a kaleidoscope of colors, but in a stylish bid to make Miuccia Prada proud Fashionlines’ favorite celebrities shone in black.

Sporting a sheared do and lacy vintage Chanel piece from the 50s Natalie Portman was the embodiment of elegant chic. In a candid interview with the young Harvard graduate, designer extraordinaire Isaac Mizrahi called the actress “the most beautiful girl on the red carpet.”

Keira Knightley was equally lovely in a white Valentino dress, embellished with a beaded bow motif. Crisp and pared down Miss Knightley’s simple choice was just right for the fresh faced teen. Not to mention, the Pirates of the Caribbean beauty’s outsized vintage Cartier earrings were just the perfect blend of old school Hollywood glamour and hipster posh.

Sarah Jessica Parker looked adorable in a black Rojas princess dress, cascading to the ground in tiers. Accompanied by husband and Producers star Matthew Broderick, the Sex and the City sensation was polished and poised. Delicately perched atop her trademark Manolos, she was indeed a classy testament that black is the new black.

Golden Globe winner Reese Witherspoon and Jonny Depp’s leading lady Vanessa Paradis -- an icon in her own right -- also opted for Chanel. Undeniably graceful in true Coco style, both women stood apart from the frenzied crowd.

Mariah Carey, whose recent comeback confirmed by eight Grammy nominations, dazzled in a one of a kind Lagerfeld creation; a black column gown adorned with rhinestone studded wedges and a generous décolleté. Speaking of risqué, curvaceous hottie Scarlett Johansen was not afraid to flaunt her ample assets in a smoldering red Valentino number. Also dazzling in sizzling vermillion was Escada clad Gena Davis, the proud recipient of a Golden Globe for her inspiring performance as the President of the United States.

Charlize Theron who has developed a fine palette for couture dazzled in custom made Dior by John Galliano. Giving the illusion of nudity, delicately covered by sheer Chatellie lace, North Country’s tough girl was a wispy dream.

The Golden Globe Awards Ceremony held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day was a stellar affair. In retrospect, what could be more befitting than honoring Tinsel Town’s imaginative visionaries on America’s most legendary dreamer’s birthday?
