Strange Coincidence?

My two favorite New York Fashion Week designers are without a doubt, the California team Rodarte, and Frenchman Gilles Mendel for J. Mendel. Both shows were delicious treats and both offered up the most couture and well-made clothes of the season. However, I must take issue with J. Mendel on one gown from this season of Spring 2007, which looks mightily like a Rodarte gown (the one I wore to the CFDA Awards in fact) from Spring 2006. Granted, Mendel is the only New York designer who would be capable of creating anything remotely like the “waves” of the Rodarte sisters… still, Mendel doesn’t need to copy. His work is stellar all on his own, and I plan to get one of his beautiful broadtail jackets as soon as I can.

Get a grip – this doen’t look anything alike – they both are the same colour but thats where it ends!

Were you at the show? I was. Everyone familiar with the Rodarte dress noticed immediately. That would be the buyers for the major stores, clients and quite a few journalists.
