Last Issue of Fashionlines

It has been a great joy and fun to write for fashionlines. It is sad to see it close, and I wish the best of luck to Christine and the other writers.

Dear Christine: As New York Editor, I can only say that no, of course I don’t WANT to say good-bye but I will take you up on your offer to leave a message. Needless to say, I will miss contributing to Fashionlines and I will miss Fashionlines. A class act all the way- just like it’s publisher and editor in chief. But you know the saying: “Once a fashion editor, always a fashion editor” so I know that you will resurface and continue spreading the ‘word’ in your infectious manner!

Paris Adieu

It’s been quite a run for Fashionlines since Christine and I met at an Ungaro Couture show in July of 2002. In those days, the handful of Internet editors covering Paris fashion events were always seated together, and as luck would have it, our seats were side by side. The Ungaro show that followed was sublime, one of the final collections signed by Emanuel Ungaro, and that last with dramatic staging. His tribute to the South Pacific included a tapestry of bead dresses that looked light enough to melt on that hot July day. Since then, after five seasons of covering Paris men’s shows, Ready-to-Wear and Haute Couture, through heat waves, arctic cold and rainy springs, after some 400 reviews, feature articles and interviews, my time as Fashionlines’ Paris Editor must necessarily come to an end. I will always keep many fond memories, both of Christine and of the many people I met along the way. In the end, we can all say we did our best, and like Carol Burnett sang at the end of each of her shows, including the final episode in 1978:

I’m so glad we had this time together,
Seems we just got started and before we knew it
Came the time we had to say, ‘So long.’

I am very sorry to hear you decided to close Fashionlines. It was a first class site with a strong vision and point of view. It will be missed. There is so much uninspired fashion reporting on the Internet, and to lose even one quality site like yours is a big loss.

Its more than sad to see u guys go. You are at the top of my bookmark list. I have loves this site for a very long time & I do not want it to close… where will i turn to? why is it closing? I’m sure we can find a way to keep it up & running?
