Kisses to Build Dreams On

Back in California after Haute Couture Week…what haunts me most? The full moon rising over the Pyramid at the Louvre, with the sparkling Eiffel Tower behind me? The gardens and fountains at Versailles? The rooms of Coco Chanel’s private apartment on the rue Cambon? Well, yes….of course. But also the jewels at Boucheron on Place Vendome, the seriously lace gown worn by Lily Cole at Carven, and the ruby snake bag by Alexander McQueen for my new favorites, Boucheron… I even miss the hot weather, which I never thought I would say. San Francisco is cool enough today that I can finally think clearly and remember all the things I really loved seeing. Considering that Haute Couture week is a massive emotional and intellectual invasion to all senses, I am drained as usual. I was even able to explain the importance of the World Soccer Cup to my husband, who thinks I am about to “go French” all the way. Since the car in which I was riding with my friends Ciina and Kelly was nearly rumbled and turned over on the night the French won the semi-final against Portugal, I was glad not be in Paris when the French lost to Italy. Very glad. I think I’ll just stick to the couture and art.
