Hot Fun in the SummertimeKelly Steremberg, Timothy Hagy and I went to the Baptista show this morning…very architectural, lots of white and airy dresses, tunics and capris for a winter cruise. These were not clothes you could wear in NYC in the middle of January. It’s been staggeringly hot in Paris. Refreshing if a bit impractical, these clothes looked great for right now in the heat. Then we headed off to Boucheron, where the lovely Audrey Hepburn-esque Isabelle showed us the amazing collection (stay tuned for the story of this best-beloved jeweler of France). We decided we had to have the pale golden ostrich diamond feather necklace that is designed to be flexible and open sans clasp. Alas, it was about two million dollars.
Kelly and I ducked into the Ritz terrace for lunch, and who was sitting nearby but the one and only Mohammed el Fayed, the once future and never to be father-in-law of Princess Diana and the owner of the Hotel Ritz. I decided he was trying to sell off his notorious white elephant to the man he was lunching with. A brunette bimbo with a bit more décolletage than is tasteful for midday “arrived” and requested a Bloody Mary in a fake English accent. Many of the people sitting on the terrace looked pale, underexercised and purposeless. We were glad to get out of there and open our black lacquer fans given to us at Boucheron and fan ourselves into a definitely cooler state. | |
