Beside the Point: An Open Letter to Cathy Horyn of the New York Times

Dear Cathy,

You have a lot of influence in this business. So why are you attacking these two brilliant young girls from California whenever you can? Are you so obsessed with the fact that the magazines and the best dressed women love these clothes that you simply have to rag on in order to stand out? Comparing Rodarte to Picasso, favorably or unfavorably—gee Cathy, that’s a pretty heavy-handed point. We take it! The designers of these lighter than air, ethereal couture clothes are doing something groundbreaking. I have been saying this all along, but never quite as well as you just said it , Cathy.

Many thanks,
Christine Suppes
