Jonathan Saunders

Jonathan Saunders’ work has always revolved around an axis of print. From him I got the impression that fabric, line, fit and form existed to accommodate his unique motifs. That said, British fashion’s darling has thrown us a curve ball this season. Sending out a procession of simple, unembellished designs Saunders has proclaimed that he doesn’t “want to clutter a dress with print.” This time around the complexity of his work lies in construction as opposed to embossed patterns. Though swirls and geometrics make brief appearances in delicate details they no longer play lead roles.

We absolutely adore Jonathan’s new pared down, effortless sensibility. Nonetheless, how his die hard fans will receive this radical shift remains to be seen.
