Peter Som

The Young Guns - PETER SOM:
Young Peter Som, already quite popular with the a-list social set in New York, and who had been a CFDA/Vogue Initiative finalist, cited Richard Diebenkorn paintings and the colors of Northern California beaches as inspiration for a collection that he hoped to be both beachy and sophisticated at the same time. In his program notes, he talked about a "city girl who packs her bags and takes a trip to the beach", mixing some of her own pieces what that of her boyfriends, for a soft, "easy, unbuttoned, and effortless" attitude. Hence, the off the cuff and eclectic mixes which have been apparent in every Peter Som collection thus far were very much on display this time, and they were also the most successful items. With washed jade green as his signature color, almost everything else appeared to have been "washed" as well. An over scaled floral was used throughout- as a pouf skirted sundress and as separates, he used a charming "little- bird print" on a group of bathing suits and bikinis, linen tweed and silk burlap were used effectively when thrown over unexpected pieces, and khaki was the base color which further neutralized everything and added a played down effect. Best looks were the sun cashmere polo, little-bird print bikini top, khaki stonewashed stovepipe short; gold floral balmacaan which he tossed over a pale moss flutter chiffon sequined t shirt and silk burlap slouch pants; an aqua linen tweed jacket paired with a white guipure lace tank and a khaki silk taffeta skirt which boasted a Swarovski crystal encrusted twine belt; and the pearl encrusted silk burlap jacket shown with khaki stonewashed cotton gabardine pants.
