East Meets West

PARIS, October 11 - Yoichi Nagasawa follows in the steps of Kawakubo, Yamamoto, Kenzo and Issey Miyake having won the best designer of the year award 2004 in his native Tokyo. According to program notes, his sportswear collection for 2005, shown on Saturday, was conceived in a quest to bring comfortable clothes to an occidental world.

He worked mostly with bright, hot colors, and showed his ingenuity in a set of dresses woven from beads. Otherwise, the pieces seemed to fall short of the intended goal.
