Vivienne Goes Artsy
By Timothy Hagy
Viv's back with a flash, presenting a catchy collection for fall / winter 2004-05. Layering earth tones, wrapping body suits with parachute toggles, attaching trailing tassels to the hemline and strategically placing clusters of chocolate lace here and there, she proved herself once again a major voice in cutting-edge fashion. "I just did it all on paper," she told Fashionlines backstage after the show. "It was very difficult, but it worked."
I'll say. Take the plastic apron placed above leggings sprinkled with metallic medallions, or the gray bandages spiraling around slacks, or even the ginger-colored shredded fur coat that was tossed atop one ensemble.
Models came out from behind a stage spread with plastic garment bags, and then sashayed down the catwalk, sporting an attitude more boss than prim. And basically, it all worked.
There were some peculiar moments, however. Her pealed back top-heavy jackets looked to have inspired Janet Jackson's Superbowl mammary exposé, as did the bizarre chartreuse sweater, with what looked like suction cups placed over each breast, connected by a knitted hose.

Still, the overall freshness made for a winner of a collection. Absolutely fabulous! - as Eddie would have said to Patsy. It doesn't get much better than that.
