Junko Shimada has lots of fans, judging from the wave of Japanese buyers that swelled the ranks for her show early on Sunday morning. First out was a glazed red leather trench festooned with an oversized rose spray that would have made Sonia Rykiel's cabbage look minute. Next came a set of fuzzy hooded ensembles in such diverse colors as hot pink, cool lime, and mellow peach. There were in the mix some lovely silver trenches, a pumpkin top worn with a plaid skirt, and even a silky apricot cocktail dress. The problem is that the trimmings - including furry pom-poms, and flowers shot with growth hormones - got in the way. Pick all of that off, and you have a solid collection, one likely to sprout from a commercial standpoint.
