Marithé and François Girbaud, the husband and wife design team, have always gone for a young look, one aimed at the way kids dress today - or at least kids with lots of money to spend dressing down. But this season, lo and behold: crystal-embedded gloves with fingertips cutout, satin-lapel redingotes, and sleek-elegant black dresses clustered with what looked to be holly berries. Down in the hood suddenly moved uptown. There were still lots of street smarts in the layering, the short skirts paired with high boots, and the way the models (this time professionals interspersed with skateboarders) moved. But honestly, do you have to instruct the guys to grab their crotch for the camera? Time to keep movin' on up.
