Tom Ford, the man responsible for the deliverance of Gucci from the nadir of tasteless excess to the zenith of sexy-cool, showed his final collection for the brand he once resuscitated.

Tom's emotional farewell to Gucci was a stroll down the catwalk of memory lane. Revisiting his hallmark triumphs, Tom rewrote (redesigned) history. First, Tom sent out his sex kittens on heels, dressed in ruched, skin tight, structured skirtsuits. Then came the streamlined coats, cut to perfection and amplified by the raw animal power of massive fur collars, crock panels and leather belts. Regressing further along a timeline Tom reinterpreted his velvet tuxedo jackets, proving once again that masculine silhouettes can be tremendously womanly.

The high point of the designer's homage to the past came in the form of magnificent gowns. Stunning jewel encrusted evening dresses with plunging necklines, glorious corseted ribbon pieces in vivid colors and bravura sequined, floor sweeping dazzlers-- finished of with luxurious fox stoles-- got a standing ovation from the fashion mob filling the venue up to capacity. At the conclusion of this monumental collection, supermodel Georgina Grenville, iconic for her Gucci ads during the 90s, made her appearance, looking divine in a smoldering white jersey dress.

Following Grenville, Tom Ford strolled down the catwalk bearing the title of Gucci's creative director for the last time. As rose petals rained down on him, the defiant lyrics of "You are free to do what you want to do" filled the air. The crowd went absolutely wild.

Tom's final goodbye marked the end of en era. Now all that remains to be said is, "Arrivederci Tom! Buona fortuna."
