PARIS Spring 2004

Minus partner Josh Patner, designer Bryan Bradley showed for the first time in the Bryant Park Tents, to a packed house- including a front row filled with the 'A-list' social set who blatantly serve as his inspiration. How refreshing- Bradley is the only fashion designer who, when asked about his inspiration, jokingly said (mimicking his fellow designers, "It's not a sunset or waterfall, blah, blah, blah- it's my customers.") The very appealing, flirty, and decidedly dressed up collection is indeed perfect for those who need outfits for all the many functions and parties they attend.

Bryan's best idea married variations on that flirty, feminine floral chiffon knee length dress (some boasted ruffles and a few were multi tiered) with the surprise of a more structured, perfectly tailored coat. Though some of the trench coats recalled Marc Jacobs' designs (especially with the vintage-y military feel, slightly puffed sleeves, and large buttons) they were still great. Standouts included a black cotton tweed coat shown over yellow chiffon dress, a lilac cotton tweed coat shown over a black lace number, and the khaki cotton canvas coat worn with khaki silk chiffon top and khaki paillette skirt. There were also some beautiful pale brocade coats, Chanel inspired fitted cotton tweed suits, and a suit that mixed a shrunken black jacket, crisp white shirt, and navy and white checked skirt that was fitted through the torso and flared at the hem.
