Catherine's invitation read, 'Smoke', and though smoking is dangerous and not exactly a 'politically correct' pastime, cigarettes (the iconic French Gitano brand to be exact) served as the influence behind Catherine's "nonchalant" collection (models even carried 'Gitano' clutch bags to drive home the message). Hence, the emphasis on smoking jackets and cropped satin pants that boasted seaming taken from the Gitano carton. It should be mentioned that celebrity stylist Philip Bloch said, Catherine makes the "best pants" (they give you a great "bum").

In addition to the shawl collared satin and organza jackets, Malandrino sent out a group of graceful chiffon and tulle dresses and feminine chiffon blouses that were tucked or featured lace details. The touch of Swarovski crystals added a delicate subtle touch. This was quite a turnaround from her last almost all black leather touch chic, hard- edged collection.
