HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD
by Timothy Hagy
Collette Dinnigan bathed the runway in soft pink lights, played soft romantic tunes to accompany her show, and passed out sugary sweets to her guests.
As a young and talented designer on the Paris scene, she's certainly getting lots of well-deserved press attention.
The collection, which proved her the queen of draping, was full of pastel rose, melon and turquoise satin dresses exquisitely wrapped and folded. Asymmetrical skirts and hemlines polished off the striking silhouette, which was the strong point.
Collette glitzed it all up with rhinestone borders,
cocktail dresses sprayed with silver droplets and
strands of pearl sequins.

If the heaviness of decoration, as in Aztec-looking brocade, or blinding silver lamé, detracted from the sweetness elsewhere on the runway, so be it. Tinsel Town is where she's obviously aiming, and with a twinkling of starlets already interested in her work, one could almost hear the eveningwear shouting "Hooray for Hollywood."
