THIS MONTH:
Hollywood A List Parties

This was Ralph's most highly acclaimed ready to wear collection to date, owing to a softening and loosening of his aesthetic and a certain lack of stiffness and stuffiness that marked his other work. The best pieces were actually the simplest- and though evening was beautiful, the day portion was really outstanding. Interestingly, this is also one runway where black did not only NOT look dull or boring, but the shade was used to its very best advantage, showing off Ralph's adept hand at seaming, perfection cuts, and impeccable tailoring. Examples are his black double- faced wool shirtwaist dress with black patent leather insets, a black double faced wool coat with black patent leather insets, black double faced wool pants, and black and white jersey tank, the knee length black double faced wool strapless dress with patent leather beams.

Ralph's love and admiration for modern art was reflected in the abstract Rorschach printed shirtwaist dress and skirt, as well as the black and white hand-painted lambskin skirt shown with Daniel Storto's matching elbow length gloves, and paired with a black silk jersey turtleneck. The navy silk gros de longres knee length raincoat, simply fitted through the torso and gently flaring out, worn over matching narrow pants, was about as close to perfection as you can get, and my definition of a spring coat to covet now and forever.
