At the high end of what can easily fall into a bad fashion joke, we have one of my favorite designers, Dries van Noten. His collection reflected a respect for light (beautiful pale garments for summer), a respect for women, indeed, a respect for femininity. When you wear his clothes you do think about his story line, which seems historically rooted in Belgium, where he is from. Even when he makes a delicate summer blouse or dress, you know it’s the product of a northern-based, romantic European sensibility.
