By Oscar de la Renta

Friends and clients such as Lee Radziwell, Danielle Steel, the Miller sisters, Deeda Blair and other fashionistas, sat in the front rows to cheer on Oscar de la Renta at his last show for Balmain. The theme was "Dr. Zhivago," probably the “good old days” for many of these clients, who obviously missed out on the adjacent hippie period, and the clothes, opulently embroidered coats with furs collars and cuffs, beautiful smooth fitting days suits and lacy little evening dresses were classic de la Renta. Danielle Steel, reportedly announced after the show, “Without him I will go naked”, and greeted him with red roses, which reminded all of us that Mr. de la Renta has the most amazing and devoted client list in Couture. His handsome and gentlemanly countenance will be missed in Paris, and the women, who feel protected in his always beautiful and impeccable garments will miss him the most. Oscar de la Renta’s Balmain is Old School in the best sense of the phrase—always respectful, always elegant and always current.
